What's CasualCEO?
A matching service between startups and (semi-)retired CEOs.
Why does this matter?
CEO pay is massively inflated right now. That signals a broken market. What if we should increase the number of openings by 100x?
Why would a seasoned exec want to gig as a CasualCEO?
There are three reasons to seek a CEO role: money, status, and skill fit. CasualCEO gigs immediately deliver on the latter two factors. They get the title, and get to work from their gift. And if the company grows (or if they grow the company), they can make lots of money too.
Why would a startup want this?
Because smart founders recognize that CEO is just a job full of tasks. CasualCEO lets you fire the CEO, so they work for the founders. Also, since they're already well-off, they don't need a cash salary. Everybody wins.
Does this imply the founders are incompetent?
Look at the Google founders. They brought on a veteran CEO for a while to help them structure things. Eventually he moved on. What if we could share that same love with any startup?
What are typical deal terms?
A typical gig may stipulate $1/year, a 20% grant vesting over four years, on a 30 day cliff. Founders reserve the right to fire, but otherwise defer to the "boss". Leave them in place as long as they're fit for purpose. Cut them once it's not economic. They'll move on to the next gig.
Is it really possible to approach CEO'ing this casually?
Religions sacralized sex and marriage for millennia. If that ain't sacred anymore, neither is this.
How does the matching work?
Make a profile. The system pushes matches for your review (both sides).
Do you broker/mediate the deal?
Only when invited. Otherwise, we put y'all in touch, and let you make magic. This approach is lighter, more anarchic and more liberating for all parties.
What sectors/stages do you cover?
All/all.
Where do you charge?
De-anonymize the matches for a fee. Equity accepted on case by case basis.
